NPFL Matchday 26: Rampant Enyimba move third


The People's Elephants continued their climb up the NPFL standings after showing the Desert Warriors no mercy on matchday 26
Enyimba FC 4-0 El Kanemi Warriors 
Chinonso Okonkwo netted a hat-trick as Enyimba moved to within seven points of leaders Plateau United courtesy of a 4-0 win over El  Kanemi Warriors.
The People's Elephants dominated proceedings in the first period and entered the interval with a goal lead courtesy of Ikechukwu Ibenegbu's well dispatched penalty kick.
It was a one-man show in the second half as Okonkwo bagged himself a hat-trick to help the People's Elephants into the top three.
Gombe United 2-1 Abia Warriors 
Gombe United fought back to secure a 2-1 win at home to Abia Warriors.
Hammed Yakub put the visitors ahead with on the 65th minutes, but Afolabi Abdulwaheed brought the Savannah Scorpions level with eleven minutes left on the clock.
The hosts then secured the points in the 86th minute as substitute Sani Mohammed bundled home from a scramble in the box. 
Plateau United 1-0 Nasarawa United 
Plateau United held firm at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table by claiming a 1-0 win over Nasarawa United at the Rwang Pam Stadium on Wednesday.
Emmanuel James scored the solitary goal of the game against the Solid Miners with a penalty kick in the second half. 
The Peace Boys held on to keep their place at the summit with 48 points from 26 matches. 
MFM FC 2-1 Sunshine Stars 
MFM FC kept the pressure on Plateau United after recording a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars at the Agege Stadium. 
Tchato Giscard and Stephen Odey gave the Olukoya Boys a deserved two-goal advantage, but substitute Ajibola Otegbeye caused a nervous finish after converting from the spot four minutes from full time.
However, MFM held on to ensure that they go into the cracker at home to ABS full of confidence.
ABS FC 1-1 Kano Pillars 
Kano Pillars almost had three points in the bag but were forced to relinquish a slim advantage in a 1-1 draw with ABS FC at the Kwara Stadium Complex.
A sweet header from Rabiu Ali handed Pillars the lead early in the second half in an entertaining battle. 
With the game almost ending in favour of the 2013 league champions, a penalty was awarded to the Saraki Boys and Samuel Oyedeji stepped up to send goalkeeper David Obiazo the wrong way. 
Wikki Tourists 1-0 Lobi Stars 
Wikki Tourists' bid to beat relegation received a huge boost as they pipped Lobi Stars 1-0.
Samuel Chukwudi's spot-kick minutes after the hour made the difference in the tension soaked clash. 
The Bauchi Elephants now have 33 points from 26 matches.
Enugu Rangers 1-0 FC IfeanyiUbah 
Enugu Rangers heaved a sigh of relief courtesy of a 1-0 victory over FC IfeanyiUbah at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
Ifeanyi George was at the right place to punish the Anambra Warriors with the only goal of the game, lashing his finish past Ikechukwu Ezenwa after a mistake from Tamen Medrano. 
Rangers were close to a second, but Daniel Etor's vicious strike surprisingly failed to hit the target.
Katsina United 1-0 Niger Tornadoes 
Katsina United gave themselves a huge boost in their fight for survival with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes 
The hosts were bright from the off and took a deserved lead in the 16th minutes from time when Obinna Eleje collected rifled a ferocious strike past the goalkeeper after good work from Destiny Ashadi.
Tornadoes, desperately trying to avoid a second loss in three matches, were down to 10 men when Reuben Ogbonnaya was sent off for a dangerous tackle. 
The result puts Katsina United on 35 points, two below 10th-placed Tornadoes.
Remo Stars 2-2 Akwa United 
Akwa United continued their impressive run as they shared the spoils with Remo Stars 2-2 at the Sagamu Stadium
The Sky Blue Stars went in front in the 10th minute through Victor Mbaoma, but goals from Ubong Friday and Musa Newman saw the Promise Keepers come from behind to go in front.
However, Mbaoma netted a spot-kick with less than two minutes remaining, earning a point for Fatai Osho's side.
